New Westminster, once the capital of BC is located at the geographic centre of the Greater Vancouver Regional District. It is bordered by the Fraser River (Surrey) to the south, Burnaby to the northwest and Coquitlam to the east. New Westminster has seen significant population growth in recent years with more residential projects on the immediate horizon within the primary trade area of Columbia Square Plaza. There are currently 667 new multi-family housing units under construction and 570 newly constructed muti-family units completed this year. Another 532 units of multi-family housing development applications are currently under review by the City of New Westminster, which will bring an additional 2,500 or so new residence to the primary trade area.
Columbia Square Plaza is a food anchored open-air neighbourhood Shopping Centre with a mixed-use office and high-rise residential component. Fully renovated in 2010, the centre now offers 169,000 sq ft of newly constructed or renovated space. Increased parking, better exposure, better amenities and improved site circulation. These improvements have ensured Columbia Square Plaza remains the best destination for shoppers in New Westminster.
